Who We Serve:

Justice Assistance provides medical and behavioral health services to any individual who is justice involved, including their immediate adult family members.

Justice-involved individuals are persons who have had contact with the criminal justice system, specifically through misdemeanor or felony charges in the Rhode Island District Court, Superior Court, or Family Court. This includes individuals currently or formerly under court supervision—such as probation, parole, or pretrial monitoring—as well as those with prior convictions, filings, or who have participated in diversion or community-based alternatives to incarceration. Although some do not include survivors and victims of crime in the definition of 'justice-involved,' Justice Assistance has traditionally done so—providing this population with education, support, and housing services.

Who is Justice Involved?

  • According to the Center for Disease Control, justice-involved individuals both nationally and in RI are overwhelmingly poor, disproportionally non-white, undereducated and in overall poor health.

  • Statistics show that if first-time offenders, through proper intervention and support, avoid entering the judicial system, they are thirty-four (34%) percent more likely not to reoffend
